Grenfell Memorial Quilt

My contribution to the Grenfell Memorial Quilt

On the 16th September, I took my heart inspired textile piece to the wonderful Tuesday Greenidge and the sewing bees at Grenfell Memorial Quilt 💚 in the North Kensington library.

Tuesday has brought together people from far and wide, including survivors, members of the community and supporters to create a 220ft x 72ft memorial quilt to commemorate the 72 people who tragically lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire. These are the exact dimensions of the tower itself and it is the largest collaborative craftivist work in the UK. It is an act of remembrance and love and it also acts as a call for justice.

Tuesday’s own daughter was a survivor of the horrific fire and it is unbelievable to think that to this day there has been no justice for the people of Grenfell.

The piece was created with recycled textiles dyed with tea and rust, with appliqué and beading.
The quotes are from Grenfell survivors taken from the National Theatre play Grenfell: in the words of the survivors.
